Training Begins

So now that it's about 16 weeks from the Tyler Half, I'm beginning to take running more seriously. I'm paying attention to training guidelines, and making myself go when I'd rather not.
Tonight, was one of those.... "I have to go run" nights. It feels so different to know that if I don't try really hard, that I won't even accomplish this goal, much less do it well.
Are you guys starting to run mental hurdles yet? Am I the lone slacker-at-heart?

Grrr..blogger just dropped my comment.

Good job!! Tuesday was also a 'must run' for me. Luckily it was a slow day and I'm glad I went.

Register yet?

And no - you are not alone! I am already SO doubtful I can finish. And the fact that I will be last is a little mentally sad, but I will be there!

Ladies, hang in there.

Real happiness comes from seeing the long race to the end, not beating anyone to the end. The best rewards in life come from slow steady effort at things that matter, even when we do not want to do them, rather than from the short and shallow pleasures of doing something easy and quick. "[L]et us run with patience the race that is set before us." (Hebrews 12:1). Surely you have already learned that from dealing with spouses and children.

Most of the people I know who have finished marathons took up running late in life after they learned to persevere in harder races (family, illness, job, etc.). Go slow (easy runs) and steady (jog 3 days a week) in your preparations and you both will see improvement and finish the 1/2 marathon. (2 Timothy 4:7).
